As an eCoach, I keep my staff up to date with available technology resources online through email and newsletters. I share websites that I love that fit perfectly in various subject areas. Below is a newsletter I sent out in February. I found resources such as a Smartboard lesson for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and other websites that teachers can check out as a class or share with their students for Black History Month.
Through my internship I will implemented a staff development program that engages teachers in 5-6 areas through the portfolio. Staff development was assessed and meaningful resources were shared.
Artifact 2 Staff Development Wiki
During my internship I created a program which engaged teachers in at least five of the sections of the pre-portfolio. Through my professional development sessions I listed activities, links, resources, and research on my Van Bokkelen Elementary Technology Staff Development Wiki page. This link was placed on every teacher's desktop so that they can easily access the resources as well as post ideas and suggestions about resources.
1. Research This year I was the leader of Van Bokkelen's Technology Committee. I shared articles through the Wiki page and during meetings to help the team understand that technology is not the answer to education's problems but rather something to reflect about. We were able to create a vision for our school and discussed new technologies that we would for our building. On the wiki page is our meeting meetings, best practices links to articles, and other resources.
Additionally, research was shared during my second whole staff development session supporting technology in instruction. I shared articles about how technology such as videos can be used to differentiate learning. These resources can be seen on the Differentiate Using Technology part of the Wiki page.
2. Integration of Technology into the Curriculum In almost all of my staff developments, the integration of technology into curriculum took a priority based on the staff needs. I was able to find interactive Smart board lessons, language arts interactive websites, math/science/social studies interactive activities, and web 2.0 technologies that support curriculum for Pre-K - 5th grade. One professional development session that was in two parts was the Global Education session. I exposed the staff to telecollaborative projects and web 2.0 technologies that support communication skills and distance education. The global education professional development session and resources are located on the wiki page.
3. Technology Resources The Staff Development Wiki Page was a great format to share all the resources with my staff. Teachers were able to add additional resources and links that they found as well as leaving comments such as instructional ideas and suggestions. Teachers were able to analyze and figure out if resources would be appropriate for their students and the curriculum. A great example of this is on my Web 2.0 Technology Tools part of Wiki page.
During my internship I did not begin grant writing but spoke with the technology committee about potential grant opportunities that we can pursue in the upcoming 2011- 2012 school year.
4. Technology for Diversity During my internship I shared telecollaborative projects with the staff during a morning professional development session. Four or five teachers including myself joined the Monster Exchange Project. Students at our school were paired up with another school and class anywhere in the world. My class was paired up with another third grade teacher in Indiana. My students understood how important it was to communicate clearly and we were able to create a relationship with the other class. We learned about Indiana and shared what it is like living in Maryland near Baltimore. Click here for an example of two students paired up together. Here is another example of how important it is to write and follow directions clearly.
5. Assessment with Technology In my final staff development session I shared with my staff the benefits of Google Docs and more specifically Google Forms. My sessions was about working smarter not harder at which we can all relate because the pressure of being data driven. Teachers were also able to see how I used data from their evaluation forms through the Google Forms throughout my internship as well. Resources were shared through the Work Smarter page of staff Wiki page.
6. Assessment of Technology During the Global Education professional development session part two I shared that assessing work in tellecollaborative projects can be assessed using rubristar. I also shared example of assessing group projects that use technology as well as personal reflection essays. These resources are towards the bottom of the Global Education Wiki page.
Artifact 3 End of the Year Evaluation During the course of my internship I used Google Forms to evaluate and better understand how teachers felt the sessions went. I also included questions such as what else I could do to help them. Teachers had an option to include their names in the evaluations if I need to complete a follow up with them and assist them based on their requests. Teachers would complete these evaluations which were linked to my professional development wiki page. I was able to make informed decisions to support the teachers and in return support their students. Below is the end of the year evaluation which shows that there was an improvement of using technology in lessons. However, not all teachers are using the technology consistently so my role as an e-coach for the 2011-2012 school year will benefit.
Using the Google Form evaluations after staff development sessions as well as own goals I was able to continuously reflect on my internship. One way that I did this was to extend sessions and go more in depth versus stretch out and barely go into the topic. From my proposal, I completed almost all professional development sessions minus session four about using electronic resources effectively. I used this time to extend session 3. Overall I felt like I helped my school with the limited amount of time during each 45 minute session. I really enjoyed my smaller sessions which differentiated the needs of individual teachers or student interns such as from UMBC.
